When John Beilein’s West Virginia teams were at their best they had a 6 foot 11 gunner named Kevin Pittsnogle. He presented match up problems for opponents with his ability to knock down the 3 pointer. The roster John Beilein inherited from Tommy Amaker was lacking in shooters and certainly did not have anybody in the mold of Pittsnogle. Beilein and his staff have been scouring the nation and beyond looking for big men that fit their system. Incoming freshmen forward Blake McLimans (Worcester, Massachusetts) checks in at 6-10 and one of the items he will be packing in his bags when he heads west to Ann Arbor is a potentially lethal 3 point shot.
McLiman’s was teamed up with Darius Morris and Tim Hardaway Jr at the Michigan Elite Camp. Their team took on Clarkston High School (Clarkston, Michigan). McLimans impressed the Clarkston staff with his 3 point shooting ability. Here is a quick video showcasing McLimans’ that shooting ability.
I’m not anointing McLimans as the second coming of Pittsnogle. What I am saying is that he possesses a specific set of skills the John Beilein covets in a big man and that is the ability to sink some 3 point daggers.
