Alabama rebounded from Saturday’s tough loss to 5th ranked Purdue by beating Samford 60-45 in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday night.
Mikhail Torrance led the way for Alabama with a game high 15 points and 7 assists. JaMychal Green had 14 points and he was the
only other Tide player in double figures.
Josh Davis led the way for Samford with 13 points and he was the only Bulldog in double figures.
Alabama found themselves down 9-8 early in the first half, but went on a 17-6 run to go up 26-14. That propelled them to a 35-24 halftime lead, and they coasted to a 60-45 victory.
Alabama’s largest lead of the night was 60-40 with 4:15 left in the game, and they didn’t score again.
It was a smoothly played game for the most part. There were only 15 foul calls and 6 total free throws between the two teams, 5 of which were by Alabama.
Samford fell to 3-7 on the season.
Alabama improved to 7-3 on the season by winning four out of their last five games with their only loss coming to Purdue on Saturday night.
The Crimson Tide now looks forward to a match-up with Kansas State on Saturday.
This will be another tough test for Alabama. The Wildcats are 9-1 on the season with their only loss coming to Ole Miss back on November 20th.
Kansas State boasts two victories over top 25 opponents with one coming on November 22nd against Dayton, and most recently last Saturday on the road against a good UNLV team.
Alabama is going to have their hands full in this game, but I have no doubt that Anthony Grant will have them ready to play, and they should at least keep it close.
Alabama has lost three times this season, but none of them by double digits. Their largest loss was a nine point loss to Florida State in the Old Spice Classic back on November 27th.
This will make the third team this season that Alabama has played a team that was ranked at the time. They are 1-1 in their previous two games.
