Shorthanded Sooners Fall To Texas Tech

After beating the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners fell to Texas Tech at home this Tuesday in a heart breaker 72-71 to move to 13-10(4-5) on the year. The Sooners were however shorthanded, as they were without Steven Pledger and Andrew Fitzgerald who were caught shoplifting after the Sooner win Saturday at where else, the Sooner Mall in Norman. As if this weren’t already enough, Cade Davis had to play the game through sickness. Willie Warren led the Sooners in points with 18 while John Roberson led the Red Raiders with 22. Tony Crocker put a double-double on the stat sheet for the Sooners with his 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The game started out neck and neck each team exchanging baskets until Texas Tech was able to pull ahead mostly due to the play of Roberson and take the lead at the half 36-28. The second half was very up and down. The Sooners would cut the lead to 5 then the Red Raiders would get it back at 12 and so on, until Oklahoma was finally able to get some defensive stops and they had the lead down to 3. The Sooners eventually cut the lead to just one as Warren fed Crocker who was fouled and sank both free throws. You can probably figure out the rest though, OU got a stop however wasn’t able to convert on the offensive end and Texas Tech won the game.

My players of the game are Tony Crocker(Oklahoma) and John Roberson(Texas Tech). Crocker recorded a double-double for the Sooners which is becoming common for him this season, plus he was absolutely clutch late in the game. Roberson was hitting all kinds of shots on Oklahoma and as a result led the Red Raiders in points, he was the reason Texas Tech won this game.

Overall, Oklahoma was up and down in this game. They had stretches where they looked like a top 25 team, but they had stretches where they looked like a division II team as well. They need to work on establishing a more balanced attack for their upcoming game at Oklahoma State.

As I stated above the Sooner’s(13-10, 4-5) next game will be against the Oklahoma State Cowboys(16-7, 4-5). This game is an absolute must win for the Sooners as their tourney chances are already looking highly unlikely(about a 5 % chance of getting in) but a loss here would just put it completely out of the question. Well, that’s all for now! See ya next article! Boomer Sooner!
