Tal’s Handy Caps: Brown Amps Crowd, Scoreboard, Phillies And Game

The Handy Cap:

Dom Brown received a standing ovation before he stepped into the batter’s box, and almost put his first hit in the right-field seats during his first trip to the plate.  He went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, scored 2 runs and won the hearts of the fans.  In game 1 he got his first hit, RBI and run scored.  Doc Halladay threw a complete game in the 7-1 final, and he came within 1 out of his 4th shutout in 8 complete performances, including a perfect one plus a 9 scoreless incomplete contest.  I-Bomb Ibanez produced 2 hits in 3 trips plus 2 walks, and he now has a 7-game hitting streak.  J-Dub Werth stroked 3 hits (4 passes), and Chooch Ruiz also smashed 3 hits (4 rips) with 3 RBI.  The run has reached 7 games, the games back remains at 3.5, and the deal for Roy Oswalt is almost final.

Home Game 2 Nitecap:

Dom Brown First-Appearance RBI Doubles Off The Wall In 2nd Inning

I-Bomb earned a 6-pitch two-out walk, and took 2nd on a first-inning passed ball.  J-Dub clanked a second-frame leadoff double off the right-field scoreboard, and Brown smoked the right-field wall near the top for an RBI double in his 1st MLB at-bat.  Welcome to the show, Mr. Brown. Chooch singled him to third, and he scored on Wilson Valdez’s RBI groundout for a 2-0 lead after two.  I-Bomb lined a one-out right-field double over the fielder’s head, Ryno Howard accepted an in-the-third free pass, and I-Bomb avoided a tag at 3rd to prevent a double play.  Stephen Drew leadoff singled to center in the next frame, but Chooch caught him one-out stealing.

J-Dub lined an up-the-middle sixth-inning leadoff single, Brown smacked a hard right-field single, and Chooch hooked a leftfield-corner 2-RBI double, ending Edwin Jackson’s outing.  Jackson went 5 plus on 103 darts, allowing 8 hits and 5 all-earned runs with 2 BB to 3 strikeouts.  Polly Polanco two-out RBI singled off Sam Demel for a 5-0 tally after six. I-Bomb lined a right-field single, J-Dub cracked an off-the-scoreboard one-out double, and Brown lifted a right-field sacrifice-fly RBI, moving the runner to third.  Chooch two-out RBI doubled over the centerfield’s head, Valdez was intentionally walked for Doc, and the lead grew to 7-0 after seven.

J-Dub Scores On 2nd-Inning Double From Dom Brown

Demel needed 44 pitches for only 2 total, giving up 4 hits and 2 both-earned runs with 1 BB to 2 out on strikes.  Juan Gutierrez pitched a scoreless eighth with a BB to a K.  Kelly Johnson singled to right, and Miguel Montero RBI doubled on a misplayed ball by Brown for a 7-1 final.  Doc threw a complete game, scattering 6 hits and 1 run (earned) without a BB to 9 punch outs.

Long Story Short:

Shane Victorino has an abdominal strain, which was revealed by the MRI, and Dom Brown made his standing-ovation MLB debut in the 6-slot last night.

Upon Further Review:

Rube Amaro and Ed Wade have hammered out the final details on players plus money, and Roy Oswalt has been notified that his approval will finalize the deal.  The players will more than likely be Jay Happ, J.C. Ramirez, a second-tier prospect and a first-tier prospect.  The Phillies offered 1B Mathew Rizzotti from Double-A Reading, and The ‘Stros demanded 1B Jonathan Singleton from Single-A Lakewood, who it probably is.
