Philadelphia Phillies: 2010 NL East ERA

With the other aces Roy Oswalt and the Philadelphia Phillies build up arm strength for a season of 110+ pitch counts or 7-inning durability. This article shows the team performances and individual ratios of working deep into games, as well as club ERA. Spring training allows hurlers to make 5 appearances, and be ready for 100 tosses by opening day.

TAL'S HANDY CAPS: STATS

These numbers are a glimpse over the pitching coach’s shoulder, because they warn of difficulty ahead. The rule of thumb is that the bullpen load should be no more than 33.3%, which is a 6-complete average per scheduled outing. That is why going a distance into the game is 6.1 frames or more, which is 70.4%. The added detail of 1 out per contest is 54 innings over the long summer’s course. This also shows the mound masters that give the relievers a well deserved night off, but there is a rust factor due to lack of backend chances. Doc Halladay ate chunks of outs 29 times, while Oswalt and Cole Hamels did so on 22 occasions. Cliff Lee accomplished it 24 of 28 starts.

The first stat group presents the frames thrown, the earned runs (only) allowed, the franchise ERA for each category, and the percentage accumulated from both aspects of pitching: SP & RP. The 2nd result-oriented compilation reveals the total of throwers who fired 6.1 innings plus, the amount the corps accomplished together, and the percentage realized for that many matches. The final numerical set displays the total opportunities per hurler, the tally of 6.1+ efforts, last date accomplished, and a status change (disabled list; non-DL injured; AAA, AA, or ’pen demotion). Also, I list yesterday’s converted attempts at achieving 6.1 plus, and whose turn is next. If there are any other questions, please ask.

THE APOCALYPTIC HORSEMEN

This ERA comparison is a recent feature for Tal’s Handy Caps, but it’s not its first publication semblance. However, there will be a completely new element for 2011, which will involve the top 5 MLB rotations: The Phillies, The Red Sox, The Giants, The Brewers and The Dodgers. If you feel that I missed one, click this link–Philadelphia Phillies: Name A Better Starter–and I list all 30 staffs in that article with last year’s results. That said, tell me there who to remove from the five units, or in the comment section below. A reason would make a nice debate, I will respond with just a name; but if there is no organization named for removal, I will compare your selection to The Dodgers. I also recommend this bookmark Tal Venada for my page, because from ballgame 1 to 162, there will be a daily ERA update on both stat publications.
