Welcome to the column…occasionally, this will be a place of venting, longing for sports days gone by, and sometimes some unpopular stances…but more times than not it will be a place where I skip through the thoughts in my skull and write down the ones that can be posted on a sports website. So let’s give this a shot….
I miss the days of when a playoff NBA or NHL or even a baseball playoff series would be on a day on, day off schedule….games on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday…you get the idea…the days when you wouldn’t get two or even three days off between games….I know tv has it’s ugly, fat, wart-covered hand in this but it still is quite annoying…sigh.
When it first started…I was not in favor of interleague play…but I have since changed my tune…I can only watch the Tigers play the Royals so many times…

Come on Bulls…do NOT let the South Beach Babies get to the Finals…it just can’t happen.
I really wish the Big Ten would hire some more creative people in their marketing division…I don’t get the new logo….why is the “I” and the “G” in a different color than the B? Is it supposed to signify the 1 and the 0 in Big Ten?…Is that why you don’t see the word TEN in the new logo?….Really?…so you are telling me that an I and a G are supposed to represent a 1 and a 0?…for the number of teams that you haven’t had since 1989…at least the logo last year had an 11 hidden in it….it really is ridiculous. No wonder this conference gets no respect from the national media…(and I didn’t even mention the laughable names for the divisions in the new conference…why not just the BIG division and the TEN division)….it’s embarrassing.
Off the beaten path a bit….The Indianapolis 500 used to be the second biggest event of the summer months behind baseball’s All-Star game….I know the major cause for its demise was the rift between CART and the Tony George formed IRL…but it totally destroyed the greatest spectacle in racing…I know there will be well over half a million people in Indianapolis this weekend, but it just isn’t the same….It’s just me wanting things to be the way they were when I was growing up…when the Al and Bobby Unsers, and the Mario Andrettis , and the AJ Foyts were locked in legendary battles….the glory days of Indy Car racing.
Speaking of the All-Star game…please get rid of the-winner-gets-home-field-advantage-for-the-World Series….please? The regular season should mean something…give the team with the best record home field advantage..they’ve earned it.
