Chicago Bears Head to Hibernation Early, Hawks Soar

In a tangle of errors, injuries, and more errors the Chicago Bears gave up another loss this week as they were blown out by the Seahawks 37-14. The offense has weakened since Cutler’s injury, The defense just cannot seem to sustain momentum. The last four losses go beyond disappointing—it’s bewildering.

I know, shoulda, coulda, woulda…but, the last two games the Bears played against Denver and Seattle should have been wins. They were up in points, had a defensive edge against their opponent, then they fell apart. They missed the opportunities for big plays, let their opponents run roughshod over them and just handed over the win.

Just look at the breakdown on the offensive line. An increase in sacks, lack of third down conversions and errors plague this team. Even with ooh field position there are too many interceptions and other errors on the field. Adding insult to injury is the loss of Forte, and now Knox—both key contributors to the Bears offense. However, you can’t blame the losses on the players on IR; it’s the guys on the field that need to keep doing their part to stay focused and minimize these losses.Johnny Knox after Back Injury against Seahawks

Lack of focus could certainly be an issue with the peripheral “noise” surrounding the Sam Hurd scandal. It must be a shock and sincere disappointment to cope with his arrest and release from the team. This is the time, though, for the team to rally and stick  together. There’s no good excuse for giving up the edge to the opponent while you’re ahead.

Wildcard spots potential has just about slipped away. With a hope and prayer they could possible slip by, but that would depend on everything going perfect for the Bears and falling apart for the leading contenders. It’s not a bet I would be willing to take today.

So what’s next Bears’ fans? Keep your confidence pool alive. Enjoy some holiday treats and buckle up for next Sunday against the Packers. It’s sure to be a wild ride.
