East Lansing, Mich. — The Michigan Sate Spartans had only one game last week, and it was enough for senior Draymond Green and freshman Branden Dawson to prove that they deserved Big Ten weekly awards.
Draymond Green is the Spartans leading scorer and rebounder, and now he is the Big Ten Co-Player of the week along with Nebraska’s Brandon Richardson.
Green scored 22 points and hauled in 14 rebounds in the Spartans dominate 68-52 victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers last Wednesday. The MSU senior went 9 for 11 from the field and added 6 assists.
Draymond has 11 double-doubles on the season, and this is his 2nd Big Ten weekly award this season.
Someone who is not accustom to capturing Big Ten awards is Michigan State freshman Branden Dawson, who grabbed his first weekly award of his career by being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Dawson had a career-high 16 points, as well as 4 rebounds and 4 blocks. The freshman looked very confident on both ends of the floor in the Spartans win against Minnesota and I’m sure this will not be the last award he adds to his collection this season.
Tom Izzo’s Spartans head to Assembly Hall to take on Illinois on Tuesday in what should be a very good Big Ten match-up.
