Philadelphia Eagles: NFL Draft news and notes

One round down, six round to go. Tonight is the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft, which I can guarantee will be more interesting than the first round. The first round of the draft is usually pretty obvious with little to no surprises.

While I was wrong with what player I thought the Eagles would select, I did get the position correct. The Philadelphia Eagles traded up to the number 12 spot and drafted Fletcher Cox, the stud defensive tackle from Mississippi State. Head Coach Andy Reid was thrilled, stating that the front office thought that Cox would be taken at six or seven. Draft experts also praised the pick, stating that Cox fits perfectly into the Eagles’ wide nine defense.

Preview:

The Eagles need to keep drafting defensive players. If I were the Eagles, I would do whatever I could to draft outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw from Alabama. He is a guy that could come in and start instantly for the Eagles. The problem is that they have the 14th pick in the second round, which is too late to grab Upshaw. (They also have the 19th pick) The other options they have are selecting a cornerback, defensive end or a safety. We’ll see, the Eagles have surprised us before. Stay tuned…
