Michigan has announced that 5th year senior WR Roy Roundtree will wear Michigan Football Legend jersey #21 for his senior season. Roundtree has previously been #16 and #12 for the Wolverines, but has earned the right to wear the legendary #21 for his final season. “To wear the No. 21 jersey at Michigan is an honor,” Brady Hoke explained on MGoBlue.com. “Desmond was a special player and is a special person who represents everything great about Michigan. Roy is deserving of the honor to wear that legendary jersey. Roy graduated in April and is taking graduate classes, and he’s become one of the leaders of Team 133, on and off the field. He’s earned it.”
Below is a picture of Roundtree embedded with the Maize Rage during Michigan Basketball’s victory over Ohio State back in February.
There is a patch on the upper left chest of the #21 jersey that says Desmond Howard – Michigan Legend 1988-1991. Last year, Howard became the first player in school history to receive the designation of “Michigan Football Legend”.
Roundtree is Michigan’s active leader in career yards (1,724) and receptions (123). Roundtree hauled in 72 receptions in 2010 which ties him with Mario Manningham for the 6th best single season total in school history. He set a Michigan single game record against Illinois that season when he totaled 246 receiving yards.
