From ESPN Dallas comes story that the Dallas Mavericks have excercised their option on Vince Carter’s salary, which seems to be about $ 3.1 million. Saturday was the day where the franchise either bought out the 14 year veteran’s contract at a reduced price or honored the contract that the shooting guard had with them, which was a three year one, with the second and third only partially guaranteed. And while there is no reassurance that the Mavs could trade the 35 year old, Carter made it sound like he was very happy to stay with the Texas based franchise.
“Absolutely and they know that,” Carter said. “When you establish something you don’t want to get moved.”
Being old enough to remember well what the duo of Antawn Jamison and Carter did on the hardwoods of the Dean Dome while at North Carolina it is great to see the veteran still being able to play in the National Basketball Association. And while he might be able some of the thunder dunks that he has produced in the past scoring over 10 points per game last season seems to be good enough for Mark Cuban’s squad.
You also have to believe that this will be the last contract that Vince Carter will have in the NBA, and so for those Tar Heels that are too young to remember him make sure you follow a couple of his games because as the song by Toby Keith goes… “I ain’t as good as I once was, But I’m as good once as I ever was“, and you might just see that magic that the shooting guard has shown many times in his past. As I do with all the present and former Tar Heels, let me wish all the best to Carter as he keeps going in his NBA career.
And of course, as is the usual, let me give you a small memory of when Vince Carter donned the carolina blue…
