2011 Record: 6-7
Head Coach: Urban Meyer- 1st year
Returning Starters: 16 7-Offense 9-Defense
Nonconference Schedule Breakdown: The Buckeyes get Miami, OH and two other teams that finished 2011 under .500…that being said…OSU doesn’t play any nonconference teams on the road…they are the only Big Ten team that can say that…welcome to the Big Ten Mr. Meyer…but they do get the Cal Bears coming to Columbus on September 15th which will be the ‘red-letter’ non-Big Ten game…and be careful Urban…I have a feeling that Jeff Tedford will have his guys ready…
Schedule Rank (in Big Ten): 9th hardest…all things…and I say all things considered…the Bucks have it made…8 home games including Nebraska & Michigan…they have some tough road games at first glance…such as East Lansing and Wisconsin…but OSU dominates those two teams away from the Shoe…38-16 combined …and this is OSU we’re talking about, not Indiana …It will take Urban a while to get his team playing well…but isn’t that what September is for?
Who they don’t play in 2012: Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern
The Skinny: I have pretty much ignored the Buckeyes when it comes to 2012 because they are irrelevant…they can’t play for the Big Ten title, they can’t go to a bowl…so Meyer has 12 games to get his offense established, his defense buzzing and his recruiting staff (different from his coaching staff remember) for a run for the Leaders crown in 2013…but that doesn’t mean his team won’t be a factor this year…they will be very good…it just won’t matter.
Toughest Game in 2012: September 29th @ ELU…not only is it the Meyer Administrations Big Ten opener, but it will probably be the toughest defense OSU gets all season long (for the final year)…it was a slugfest last year in Columbus…it should be a pretty great environment on the banks of the Red Cedar..oh yeah..OSU has won the last three meetings in Spartan Stadium by an average of more than 27 points….don’t think the Spartan head coach doesn’t know that…
Best Player: Right now it’s DE John Simon…he is the anchor of the defense and was virtually unstoppable in 2011…I’m sure he’s done nothing but stew about the subpar season his Buckeyes had last year…but there is a really good chance that by the end of this season, the best player will be Braxton Miller.
What MIGHT Happen: The Buckeyes will reach a double-digit win total….but probably not…that would mean OSU would only lose two of these games…@ ELU, Nebraska, @ PSU, @ Wisconsin and Michigan…AND not get upset by anyone else…tall task indeed.
What WILL happen: The struggles vs Purdue will end…OSU is 3-3 in their last 6 meeting with the Boilermakers including having lost 3 of the last 4 in Ross-Ade…Meyer will stop that pretty quickly..
What WON’T happen: OSU 1st year coach wins a Big ten title…would’ve been the first since Earle Bruce in 1979…but too bad.
Why they won’t win the Big Ten: sanctions baby…nothing but sanctions.
Why they will win the Big Ten: The only team I can honestly type and know from the bottom of my heart that….it is impossible for OSU to win it in 2012…
Gotta know about the Buckeyes: The Buckeyes lost their last 4 games of 2011…the last time OSU lost 4 in a row?…1943 when Paul Brown was the coach.
BOLD Statement: Ohio State may lose only once before November..

tOSU will win big this year but it will be all for naught. No championship means a full year of practice. I hope that they right their ship soon and UM 2 as the big 10 has seemed like the little 10 lately. The big 10 just sux without these 2 programs on top and the recruiting rankings suggest they are headed in the right direction.
