North Carolina Basketball: Former Heel Kendall Marshal so-so in Summer League debut

Still working on catching up on the 2012 Summer League recaps for the four newest players coming from the North Carolina Basketball program this post is about the debut for Kendall Marshall, the 6’4″/195 lbs point guard who sat out the first game of his squad since he had not signed his contract with the franchise. Now, with the financial side being done, the floor general stepped on the hardwoods as his Phoenix Suns went against the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have Tyler Zeller on their roster. In the end it was not very close as the Cavs took the game 89 to 74 in a game that was played at Thomas And Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV.

For the young man from Chapel Hill it was a so so first showing at the next level as Marshall did not score (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) while having five assists, three steals, three rebounds, a very high for him five turnovers and a -6 pts differential in just under 29 minutes of playing time. While for us that watched the 20 year old lead the UNC team for almost two seasons this was definitely not what we were accustomed to to seeing, however it must be factored in that Marshall is playing with a whole new group of players and has not been on the floor waiting for the contract to be agreed and signed.

Without a doubt, after this performance by Marshall, all eyes will be on him in the other games that he will play in for his new squad in the NBA. Having watched him play under head coach Roy Williams while being in the North Carolina Basketball program it seemed that he was the catalyst for his team mates to play better, there should be no reason why this can not also happen at the next level. The key for the young man is to adjust to the speed that he is going to have to deal with in the National Basketball Association.
