Toronto Blue Jays wins series over the Tigers

Carlos Villanueva is now 6-0 after his Toronto Blue Jays beat the Detroit Tigers on Friday night 8-3 ,  Villanueva gave up only four hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out two batters in five innings pitched.

“Just a well pitched ballgame by everyone who came to the mound against a deep and powerful lineup,” said Jays mananger, John Farrell in Friday’s post game press conference.

Cather, Jeff Mathis was the key player in the Jays five run win, going one for four and racking up three RBIs, including a base clearing double in the fourth inning.

The Jays won game two of the three game series on Saturday afternoon 5-1.  “We played with a lot of energy today,” said manager, John Farrell in Saturday’s post game press conference.

Colby Rasmus put the Jays on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning by driving in Anthony Gose with a sacrifice fly.

Detroit got the run back at the top of the fourth inning when Brennan Boesch drove in Delmon Young with a double to tie it 1-1.

In the bottom of the inning, Edwin Encarnacion put the Jays back in front with a solo home run.

There was no more scoring until the sixth inning when Yunel Escobar (who just came off the disabled list) hit solo home run to make it 3-1 Jays.

Rasmus put the final nail in coffin for the Tigers when he hit a two run homer in the seventh inning.

Jays starting pitcher, Henderson Alvarez, as far as I’m concerned, had his best outing on the mound this season, giving five hits, one earned run,two walks and struck out four batters in seven innings pitched.

Unfortunately on Sunday, the Jays were unable to sweep the Tigers as they were defeated 4-1.

Despite Sunday’s loss, Jays manager, John Farrell was very pleased of his team’s pitching in the series.  “I think overall in the series we pitched very well,” said Farrell  in Sunday’s post game press conference.

Jays starting pitcher, Brett Cecil had a fairly good day on the mound, giving up only four hits, three earned runs, four walks, and struck seven batters in 6.2 innings pitched.

The Jays are out west to face Seattle for three games and will face the Oakland Athletics later this week.
