North Carolina Basketball: Former Heel Marcus Ginyard to play in Poland this season

In a story that I totally forgot to report, it seems that anothe former North Carolina basketball player was in the news a couple of weeks ago, as Marcus Ginyard (@MG1NYARD on twitter) is headed overseas once again to play professional basketball. The former combo guard/forward for the Tar Heels has agreed to play for the Anwil Wloclawk, a Polish PLK Club. The 6’5″/200 lbs Ginyard was known as a defensive specialist while under the tuteledge of head coach Roy Williams, voted by the squad as the UNC defensive player of the year in the `06-`07 and `07-`08 campaigns. In 2007-08 he was also voted by both the media and coaches All-ACC defensive team. And while he is also a national champion, that season Ginyard sustained a stress fracture in his left foot that forced him to take a medical red shirt.

Marcus Ginyard, who has his own web site, played last season in Israel with Ironi Nahariya, where he averaged 21.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. The season prior to that the 25 year old played in the Bundesliga with BBC Bayreuth where he averaged 10.9 ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.6apg for the season. Before heading overseas this year the former Tar Heel guard/forward, who was born in upstate New York and then moved to Virginia, held a basketball camp for kids. The camp was held in Jacksonville, NC and was for kids ages 8 through 15.

I will follow Ginyard’s season, which will start late in September/early October, as I will do with all the other former North Carolina basketball players now in either in the NBA or other leagues. As I do with all present and former Tar Heels let me wish all the best to Ginyard as he enters another season of pro basketball. And as usual, for all UNC basketball and/or football make sure to check back to isportsweb!
