Notre Dame Unveils Special Unis for Chicago

For those of you who were thinking “Man, I hope Notre Dame makes a radical change in their uniforms this year,” well, here you go.

The Irish revealed this nugget of information yesterday, announcing that this is what the team will be wearing in Chicago against the Miami Hurricanes on October 6th. This is the first game this year in Notre Dame’s “Shamrock Series,” where the Irish will be playing a “home” game at a neutral site. Athletic director Jack Swarbick has indicated that each game in the Shamrock Series will have a new look; basically eliminating the alternate green jerseys we’ve come to know. The next game will be versus Arizona State in Dallas next year.

Let’s just say that, like the Fighting Irish themselves, you either like or you hate the new threads.

Count seniors Manti Te’o and Tyler Eifert among those who feel the latter.

‘‘I love them,’’ Te’o said according to the Chicago Sun-Times. ‘‘Look good, feel good. You feel good, you play good.’’

As for me, well… I kind of like (or rather, don’t mind) the new jerseys and pants. That helmet, however, has to go.

The design last year is too reminiscent of Maryland’s HORRENDOUSLY ugly home uniforms last year, and the colors look WAY too much like Michigan (even though there is a leprechaun embedded in the blue area). And that just can’t happen. Who decided that changing the helmets from gold to blue and yellowish-gold was a good idea? The gold helmets are iconic and a tradition, and as we all know, Notre Dame is nothing if not all about tradition. Tell me that the old golden domes wouldn’t look killer with the jersey and pants.

I understand that there is a market out there for something fresh and different, and I don’t oppose change. As I said earlier, I really don’t mind the jersey and the pants. But it would be nice if these teams also incorporated something of the traditional garbs into the new, that way the change wouldn’t be so drastic that it just sets your fan base on fire.

Any how, this is what the Irish will be wearing against the ‘Canes, so all you Irish fans out there, leave a comment and let me know how you feel about the new unis.
