Denard Robinson and Jordan Kovacs named captains for Michigan Football

On Sunday, the University of Michigan football team announced that Denard Robinson and Jordan Kovacs have been elected team captains, in a vote by their teammates.

“Denard and Jordan are two guys who represent what Michigan football stands for, on and off the field, and they certainly are deserving of being named team captains,” said Michigan Football coach Brady Hoke.  ”They have played a lot of football here.  I know they will do a great job of leading the seniors and Team 133.”

This news should not be a surprise as Robinson and Kovacs were the  most obvious choices for team captaincy.

Michigan FootballJordan Kovacs was second on the team last year with 75 tackles. He also had 4 sacks and an interception on his way to All-Big Ten honorable mention. With 34 more tackles, Kovacs will become the 15th player and first defensive back in school history to join the 300 tackle club. ”He’s fun to coach,” said defensive backs coach Curt Mallory. “As good a player as he is on the field, he’s an even better young man off it.”

Denard Robinson  – the electrifying QB has rewritten the record books during his 3 years in Ann Arbor. Barring injury, he will finish his career as the all-time leader in total offense at Michigan. He is the only player in NCAA history to pass for 2000 yards and rush for 1000 yards in back-to-back seasons – a feat he could easily accomplish for a third straight season in 2012. As a junior, he passed for 2,173 yards with 20 TDs. Robinson also rushed for 1,176 yards and 16 TDs. The blemish on his season were the 15 interceptions. Now in his second season under Brady Hoke and Al Borges, Robinson should be more comfortable running the offense and I am expecting he cuts those 15 picks in half.

I wonder where Robinson and Kovacs will end up on these two lists once the season is over.
