Rookie quarterback Nick Foles had another impressive outing Friday night, leading the Eagles to a 27-10 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns. Foles completed 12 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns in his first start, filling in for the injured Michael Vick. These numbers are consistent with the numbers he has put up in every game so far in the preseason, which has stirred controversy on Philadelphia sports talk radio about who should start at quarterback this season. Some fans argue that this is the time to have a fresh start, starting Foles over Vick. I have two words for them: stop it.
Philadelphia fans need to stop panicking, and realize that the preseason is nothing more than a smokescreen. There’s minimal game planning. Teams go in to preseason games with a set plan in mind on what they need to work on. These things may not necessarily match up well against that particular opponent.

Nick Foles has played well against backups, but as I said before, these other teams aren’t scheming against him. To be brutally honest, Foles wouldn’t stand a chance against that fierce Ravens defense in week two. Now, I’m not saying that Foles is a bad quarterback. In fact, I think that with his arm strength the Eagles could develop him into a very good quarterback in time. However, the Eagles do not have time. They need to win now.
If this team doesn’t win this year, we could be seeing major changes being made. The first would be the firing of Andy Reid, who appears to be feeling the heat after we saw him get into Cullen Jenkins’ face against the Patriots. Michael Vick gives the Eagles the best chance to win this year. Yes, he’s injury prone, but he has been with this team for three years now. He is a veteran that has been through the wars so to speak. Nick Foles is fresh out of college coming from an average team at Arizona.
Yes, Nick Foles could be the quarterback of the future for the Eagles. Right now, however, he is not the answer. If the Eagles want to make a Super Bowl push this year, they will need Michael Vick taking the snaps behind center, not the rookie third round draft pick Nick Foles.
Yes this may well be true but odds are Vick will be out by game two. Like it or not this kid is going to be your starting Quarterback.
