Cole Hamels will take the ball for the Philadelphia Phillies, which means business as usual returns. That was not the case last night. Are you watching the change in decision making lately by Cholley Manuel?
WELCOME, NEWCOMERS:
I will publish after every battle that is not washed out. I will have many summer-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats. If you were directed here by a feed and this review does not mention yesterday’s contest, please go to the Phillies page for my most recent coverage. (Early morning readers may arrive before the latest post.) Scroll down to Tal’s Handy Links at the bottom. Thank you.

NITECAP INSIGHT
Pennant Fever:
The skipper definitely has caught a heavy case of the September bug. Not only have his comments left no room for doubt, but he also is making moves of a playoff caliber. There was the quick hook of Tyler Cloyd, which is like the 2007 exit for Kyle Kendrick in the 2nd NLDS game against the Rox. That was the one where Kyle Lohse allowed the grand slam after he took the ball with Kendrick responsible for the 3 on board.
You may have observed recently that Doc Halladay was pulled after 7.1 innings, and Cliff Lee was removed at the 6.1-frame mark. That stated, the managing of veterans will be more liberal in nature. You can expect to see the regulars on a daily basis. There won’t be days off for Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, while Chooch Ruiz is likely to experience increased playing time. The latest news is that Chooch will start tonight and Sunday. The reason is to add more lineup punch and protection for Ryno.
You will notice that the greener players will be on a very short leash. That is especially true of the youngsters in the relief corps with the recent additions from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. This method is not exclusive to Cholley. It is the preferred approach that most skippers rely on during October. It is a normal way to run a ballgame, like the closer working only the 9th. The exceptions depend on the limitations presented to the field general. The fact is that Cholley is making postseason-like decisions now, and that will hold true from the last few battles until the campaign ends.
