Dear Mr. Goodell,
It is time you step down and leave the NFL before you fully run this thing into the ground. This isn’t just about the replacement referee situation we are currently in but for everything you have done to the NFL in your six years as commissioner of the NFL.
I understand that it is on the owners during this referee lockout but you are the face of the NFL. How are you not spending every waking moment of your days trying to solve this issue? You constantly state you do everything to protect the “shield” of the game yet you constantly screw over the fans and are in process of destroying the integrity of the game you swear you try to protect.
You constantly preach about player safety, yet you continue to push for an 18-game season with the four useless pre-season games. You are worried about the health of your players, yet you continue to fail to create a culture change amongst the players when it comes to hits. Instead, you just fine them more and more. You may not know this, but these players make good money and can take your fines. It clearly isn’t working.
The only culture you have created in terms of player safety is, don’t touch the quarterback. It is to the point you might as well make the quarterbacks wear flags.
Fans are what make the NFL go and yet you continue to screw them over. You deny fans home games by shipping their teams out to London once a year. You won’t shake this idea that you can put a pro team in London. It won’t work, so just drop it. There is money closer if you want to go international and you would still give fans a chance to travel if they want to (see: Mexico City.)
You never stick by the punishments you give out players. You constantly let them back early and back off your original statements when it comes to punishments. You lose players respect when you do that and you lose the respect of fans.
You solved the NFL lockout in time to hold the season last year but that doesn’t get you off the hook. You run the most lucrative sporting business in America and you allowed it to get that far. This is something that should have been solved a long time before that deadline. The fact we as fans even had to picture an entire season without football is a joke.
And finally this referee situation; It is on the owners to figure this out but you are the face of the NFL and whether it is fair or not you will take the blame. So it is in your best interest that you push the issue and solve this now because we fans are fed up.
The only solution you have brought forward is to fine players and coaches that complain too loudly. You send out memo’s telling coaches not to berate the officials. What do you think was going to happen when the replacement refs took over?
You continue to piss all over us and treat us like we are stupid. We as fans deserve better than this. This thing with the refs is outrageous. It is ruining the game of football and that integrity you want to protect will be gone before you know it. The boo’s will only get louder and the “bullshit” chants will be heard around the country. It will only get worse as this drags on.
You have pushed us fans around too much and even if this does get solved and it happens sooner rather than later I will not cheer you. I will still boo you and call you out for what you are, a hypocrite and a spineless human being.
And the worst part is you and the owners have us trapped. The only way to get you to notice our anger would be a boycott, but that won’t happen. Football is too ingrained in our culture. You still hold all the cards and thus you won’t do anything. We will bitch and moan all we want but you know nothing will change, and that’s what makes the most of us so angry.
Last night should have been a breaking point. Fans were in for a gem of a game and now we won’t even talk about the play on the field, and it was some good stuff. You spoiled the great game between the Packers and the Seahawks. The game, your product, is ruined. It’s time to step back and fix it and the best way is with leadership change.
And with the fans in an outrage you had a chance to admit the mistake but that’s not what your organization did. An official statement was released saying the call was correct but that a pass interference penalty should have been called. Nice attempt to differ the rage here but you aren’t fooling anybody. You had a chance to man up and admit your mistake and you pull this crap. It’s over Roger.
Even if you do solve this issue and it happens sooner rather than later you have lost the fans. I for one will boo you and talk bad about you any chance I get. You are terrible for the league and have all but destroyed the “shield” you wan to protect. You have no business running this league.
So Mr. Goodell, if you could kindly show yourself out that would be great. Don’t call us, we will call you. And look out for that crowd of fans waiting outside for you, they don’t look too happy.
Well said. I haven’t liked him since the day he sold “fake” tickets to a Super Bowl just so he could stroke his ego and be the guy on watch when the Super Bowl set an attendance record. If you or I sold something that wasn’t real, we’d be facing jail time.
One thing I at least admire about Selig, Bettman, and Stern – they freely admit they are there to make the owners happy, fans are secondary. Plus, they can shut up and keep their egos in check when the time calls for it. Goodell is the worst of both worlds-he lies that he cares for the fans AND stretches out his ego every chance he gets. I can’t remember a commissioner who operates like a man who believes a day is wasted if he doesn’t make the news.
