Michigan Football Recruiting

Michigan Football’s 2013 recruiting class is near capacity with 23 commits. They are still in contention for two high profile recruits; Derrick Green, Laquon Treadwell and Leon McQuay. I’ll run down a few notes on some current commits and let you know the latest on Green, Treadwell and McQuay.

The centerpiece of Michigan’s 2013 class is 5-star QB Shane Morris. Unfortunately for Morris and Warren De La Salle, the All-American signal caller has mono and could miss the rest of his senior campaign.

4-star tight end Jake Butt (Pickerington, Ohio) was recently presented with his jersey for the US Army All-American game. The 6-foot-6, 235 pound tight end plans to graduate from high school in December and enroll at Michigan in January. Butt is one of 5 Michigan commits who will play in the US Army game. He joins Chris Fox, Jourdan Lewis, Mike McCray and Dymonte Thomas.

Dymonte Thomas (Alliance, Ohio), who will play safety at Michigan, rushed for 309 yards and 4 TDs on 12 carries in a game earlier this season.

Through 4 games, running back Deveon Smith (Warren, Ohio) has compiled 732 yards and 8 touchdowns.

So far this season, linebacker Ben Gedeon (Hudson, Ohio) has posted 41 tackles and 4 TFLs.

Linebacker Mike McCray (Trotwood, Ohio) has 30 tackles and a forced fumble.

5-star running back Derrick Smith (Richmond, Virginia) is scheduled to visit Michigan on October 20th for the Michigan State game. He was recently visited by running backs coach Fred Jackson.

WR Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Illinois) has an ever expanding and always changing list of top schools. The one constant has been Michigan and the Wolverines remain in a good position to land the playmaking receiver. Treadwell is considered by some recruiting services to be the best receiver in the country. He plans on taking all 5 of his allotted official visits.

Defensive tackle Henry Poggi (Baltimore, Maryland) had a huge game against Don Bosco prep with 3.5 sacks and 11 tackles.

Defensive end Taco Charlton (Pickerington, Ohio) had 16 tackles and 3 sacks in a game last week.

Michigan remains in the mix with elite safety Leon McQuay III (Seffner, Florida). He is planning on visiting U-M for the weekend of the Northwestern game and will announce his commitment at the Under Armour All-American game.

David Dawson (Detroit, Michigan) recently received his Under Armour All-American jersey. He has had a difficult year and this Detroit Free Press article is well worth the read: Dawson staying focused, heading to Michigan

Wide receiver Csont’e York (Harper Woods, Michigan) showcased his skills in a game last week when he hauled in 6 passes for 113 yards and 3 TDs.

Wide receiver Jaron Dukes (Columbus, Ohio) recently had a 193 yard, 2 touchdown game.
