UNC Basketball: Q&A’s with Leon Jacobsen (Part 1)

As the NBA seasom keeps creeping up on us I continue to look for more bloggers that follow former #UNC basketball players now playing at the next level. This time around I found Leon Jacobsen, (@JacobsenLeon on twitter), an Australian blogger who follows the Knicks as closely as anyone I know (and I live in the Empire State). He is a writer for KnicksWag.com, a great site to read about the team that calls the mecca of basketball their home. With Leon I was able to do not one, but two Q&A’s segments, talking about Raymond Felton first and then Rasheed Wallace. So, without further ado here is what he said about the Knicks’ new point guard…

Alex: Give me one word to describe Raymond Felton…

Leon: Driven

Alex: Give me one sentence to describe the point guard…

Leon: A player that has been very durable over his career and a PG that knows how to find players in their right spots.

Alex: Did you think that the former Trail Blazers would become the starting point guard for the Knicks…

Leon: Well Coach Woodson has said he will be but I always thought he was going to be the starter from the day he was signed.

Alex: What do you think will be the Felton’s role with the Knicks…

Leon: He will run the point and get a lot of minutes, Felton is the number 1 PG right now and he will become very important as the Knicks didn’t have a steady PG last season. Felton has proven he has chemistry with Stoudemire and is not scared of the big lights in New York.

Alex: What would you like to see more out of the floor general this season…

Leon: He must continue to stay healthy as I mentioned earlier, Felton has been durable and this needs to continue for the Knicks to have a great year. Along with that he has to play his role in finding the open guys on the floor, the Knicks have plenty of scoring options keeping the element of surprise for their opponents is very important.

Alex: And of course, what would you like to see less out of the point guard this year…

Leon: Don’t be predictable, be consistent and limit turnovers.

Alex: Felton comes from a college which has had some great point guards in its storied history. Where do you rank the third year pro when it comes to floor generals that have played for the Knicks…

Leon: This question is too early to comment on, Felton hasn’t played enough games for the Knicks for me to assess properly. In saying that if he can assist the Knicks win a title he will never be forgotten in New York.

Alex: In what is a truly tough division how do you see the Knicks doing this year…

Leon: Right now I have the Knicks as the 2nd best team in the Atlantic behind Boston and 3rd in the East behind Miami and Boston.

The Knicks have improved a lot this season but so has both Miami and Boston. The biggest thing that will either make or break the Knicks and where they finish is EFFORT game after game, minute after minute.

If the Knicks can bring that intensity it could be an incredible year for New York and Knicks supporters.

For now all I can do is to thank Leon for giving up his time to do this great Q&A segment with me. I will have the one about Rasheed Wallace up this afternoon and you will be able to see what is said about the big man coming out of retirement. If you want to give your opinion about what you think about Wallace coming back and playing for the Knicks head on over to the KnicksWag.com site and vote. On a side note I voted “Hell to the yes, but I just wish it would have said Heel instead”!

As usual more information about North Carolina basketball and/or football, teams and players, present and past, make sure to check back often on isportsweb!

And being that this is a Tar Heel blog here is a video of when Felton donned the carolina blue…
