Chicago Bears destroy Jacksonville

Chicago Bears pummeled Jacksonville Sunday afternoon 41–3. While Cutler and the offensive line continue to find a groove, Urlacher and the defense are on fire.

Cutler passed for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He was sacked once, not too bad considering the breakdown and recovery of the Bears offensive line. Forte carried 22 passes for 107 yards. Marshall picked up 144 yards and one touchdown.

Briggs and Tillman both picked one off Gabbert to score touchdowns. The defense continues to build momentum and make big plays. They are known for crushing hits and stripping the ball. They controlled their opponent, forced errors and seized the opportunity.  

It seems things are coming together for the Bears. They were predicted to beat the Jags with modest point coverage. Regardless of the spread, the Chicago Bears are holding it together, delivering some solid wins and putting good numbers on the board.

The numbers tell a good story so far this year. Except for the mess at Lambeau  predictable by Cutler’s career stats, Cutler has found quick success with Marshall and balance with the running game. He’s enduring fewer sacks, which is critical to preserve his body, and he has time to set his form and hit his target.

As Cutler becomes more comfortable he can get out of the pocket and increase his conversion rate. He was 10-17 Sunday night in Jacksonville improving his third down conversion rate to 50%. When Cutler has protection from the offensive line, he can be explosive.

The Bears defense has raised the bar on the field. They are well-coordinated, communicating and working together to expose and exploit their opponents weaknesses. Each week they are getting better and taking bigger risks. Tillman is a stand-out this season, getting involved and making game-changing plays.

All the Chicago Bears have to be feeling pretty good about now, heading into the bye leading their division. With an early bye, they have the advantage of early recovery and high energy through the middle of the season. To stay on track the Bears need to keep their starters injury-free.

When they return, they will face off against the Lions (1–3) followed by the Titans (1–4). These may look like easy games for Chicago, but the Bears have to follow through or risk losing their advantage as they get into the second half of the season. These two teams will be fighting to salvage their chances at a potential wild-card spot in the play-offs. The further they fall behind, the more dangerous they could become.

The Bears will suit up against the Lions at Soldier Field for Monday Night Football October 22.
