With the week moving forward and the National Basketball Association getting its feet wet with the pre season it’s time to once again to check out what the former UNC basketball players did at the next level with this edition of “Heels in the Pro’s” NBA style for 10/10/12. In all there were a half dozen games on tap of which five of them had former North Carolina players taking to the court. This season, with seventeen former players from Chapel Hill, there is going to be few days, be it in the pre season, regular season or playoffs where there won’t be a touch of carolina blue when it comes to the next level. So, without further interruptions, let’s begin this edition of “Heels in the Pro’s” NBA style for October 10, 2012…
The first game of the night it’s the Toronto Raptors [1-0 in the pre season] (Eastern Conf ~ Atlantic Div) coming down south of the border to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Pistons [0-0 in the pre season] (Eastern Conf ~ Central Div). The game was played at The Palace of Auburn Hills in front of in front of a crowd that numbered 9,532. For the team from Canada it’s former UNC big man Ed Davis (@eddavis32 on twitter), who comes off the bench to play a total of 22 minutes in all. In that time the 6’10″ forward scored three points (0 for 2 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 3 for 4) to go along with six rebounds, an assist and a pair of TOs while having a -7 pts differential. As far as the game went it was Detroit winning by a duece, taking down Toronto by the final of 101 to 99. With the loss the Raptors are now 1 and 1 in the preseason.

The next game of the night is a East vs West match up as the Indiana Pacers [0-0 in the pre season] (Eastern Conf ~ Central Div) heads to the land of the 10,000 lakes to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves [0-0 in the pre season] (Western Conf ~ Northwest Div). The game, the first one for both squads, was played in front of an attendance of 9,163 at the Fargodome. For the visiting squad it’s former UNC center and National Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough (@THANS50 on twitter), who starts in this game and plays for twenty minutes in all. In that time frame the 6’9″ forward scored four points (1 for 4 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2) to go with seven boards, an assist and three turnovers while having a -4 pts differential. As far as the game was concerned it’s Minnesota winning by 14, defeating Indiana by the final of 84 to 70. With the loss the Pacers are still winless at 0 and 1 in the pre season.

As we move forward it’s once again a East meets West game as the San Antonio Spurs [1-0 in the pre season] (Western Conf ~ SouthWest Div) host the Atlanta Hawks [1-0 in the pre season] (Eastern Conf ~ Southeast Div). The game, which was played at the AT&T Center in front of a crowd of 14,123, lasted just a bit over 2 hours. For the home squad it’s guard Danny Green (@DGreen_14 on twitter), who starts for the Spurs and plays 18 minutes in this one. The former UNC basketball star who won it all in 2009 it’s a seven point performance (1 for 6 ~ 1 for 5 ~ 4 for 4) along with two assists, a pair of blocks, a steal and a TO while having a pts differential of -11. In the end it was San Antonio taking this one by a duece, defeating Atlanta by the final of 101 to 99. With the W the Spurs are still undefeated in the pre season at 2 and 0.

The second to last game we have a UNC basketball player now in his rookie season in a Pacific showdown as Phoenix Suns [0-0 in the pre season] head to the Golden State to take on the Sacramento Kings [0-0 in the pre season]. The game, the first one for both franchises for this pre season, was played at the Power Balance Pavilion in front of an attendance that numbered 9,633. For the visiting squad it’s Kendall Marshall (@KButter5 on twitter), who comes off the bench for the Suns to play a team high 28 minutes. In that time frame the floor general scored four points (1 for 5 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 2 for 2) as well as getting four assists, three rebounds and three TOs while having a -8 pts differential. As far as the game was concerned it’s Sacramento winning this one by a half dozen, defeating Phoenix by the final tally of 102 to 96. With the loss the Suns are now 0-1.

And finally, the last game of the night, it’s the Los Angeles Lakers [0-1 in the pre season] (Western Conf ~ Pacific Div) hosting the Portland Trail Blazers [0-0 in the pre season] (Western Conf ~ Northwest Div). The game, which lasted 2 hours and five minutes, was played north of the border at the Citizen Business Bank Arena (Ontario, Canada) in front of a crowd of 10,500. For the veteran small forward it was a 28 minute out pour coming off the bench (second most on the team). In that time Antawn Jamison (@Antawn_Jamison4 on twitter) scored four points (2 for 7 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with seven boards, an assist, a steal and a pair of turnovers while having a +/- of -7 in all. In the end the game went to Portland, who crushed LA by 18, with the final scored being 93 to 75. With the loss the Lakers are now 0 and 2 in the pre season.
That’s a wrap from Ontario, Lakers fall to the Blazers 93-75. Another solid outing from the 1st unit sans Kobe & Dwight. Next game Saturday.
