As I enjoy a football filled day on the large screen television let me check in with the former UNC basketball players that are now at the next level with another edition of Heels in the Pro’s NBA Style. In all there were seven games played on October 12, 2012, of those half a dozen had former Tar Heels in their roster, with one having a touch of carolina blue on both benches. With that said, knowing this is going to be a long recap, let’s get going with this edition of Heels in the Pro’s NBA Style for 10/12/12…
For the first game of the night it’s the Toronto Raptors [Eastern Conference ~ Atlantic Division] (1-1 in the pre season) hosting the Detroit Pistons [Eastern Conference ~ Central Division] (1-0 in the pre season) in a game that was played at the Air Canada Centre in front of a crowd that numbered 10,167 (max capacity 19,800). For the home team it’s former UNC forward Ed Davis (@eddavis32 on twitter), who comes off the pine to play a total of 18 minutes. For the 6’10″ forward, who was the 13th overall selection in 2010, it was a team’s second best 12 points night (5 for 8 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2) to go along with six rebounds, one steal, a block and a 3 TOs while having a +11 pts differential. As far as the game went it was Toronto defeating Detroit by the final of 82 to 75. With the win the Raptors are now 2 and 1 in the pre season and undefeated at home.

The next game of the night is an East/West battle as the Indiana Pacers [Eastern Conference ~ Central Division] (0-1 in the pre season) hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves [Western Conference ~ Northwest Division]. The game, played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in front of 10,794 (max capacity: 18,165), lasted two hours and 11 minutes in all. For the home squad it’s former UNC big man and national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough (@THANS50 on twitter), who does not play in this one… “DNP ~ Coach’s Decision”. In the end it’s Indiana taking this one by five points, defeating Minnesota by the final tally of 96 to 91. With the W the Pacers are now 1 and 1 in the pre season.

In the third game of this recap it’s the Cleveland Cavaliers [Eastern Conference ~ Central Division] (1-1 in the pre season) going to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls [Eastern Conference ~ Central Division] (1-0 in the pre season). The game was played in front of 8,678 at Assembly Hall in a game that lasted 2 hours and 24 minutes in all. For the visiting team it’s rookie Tyler Zeller (@ZellerTyler on twitter), who plays 26 minutes in all, the second most on the Cavs. In that time frame the seven footer gets his first double digits scoring as he has 10 points (3 for 4 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 4 for 6) to go along with four boards, three assists, a steal, a block, a couple of turnovers while having a -1 pts differential in the game. In the end it was Cleveland winning a close one, beating Chicago by a trey, with the final tally being 86 to 83. With the win the Cavaliers are now 2 and 1 in the pre season.

The fourth game of the night is the match up that sees former UNC basketball players on both teams as the Denver Nuggets [Western Conference ~ Northwest Division] (1-0 in the pre season) head to the lone star state to take on the San Antonio Spurs [Western Conference ~ Southwest Division] (2-0 in the pre season). The game, which lasted 2 hours and 12 minutes, was played at the AT&T Center in front of a crowd of 17,948 (max capacity: 18,581)For the team from the mile high city it’s former Carolina floor general Ty Lawson (@TyLawson3 on twitter), who starts and gets a total of 30 minutes in all. For the `09 first rounder it was a eight point performance (3 for 8 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 4) to go with four assists, three steals, a rebound and three TOs while getting a pts differential of -5. On the other side, for the Spurs, it’s Danny Green (@DGreen_14 on twitter), who starts for his squad, but just plays 17 minutes. In that time frame the 6’6″ guard scored four points (2 for 6 ~ 0 for 4 ~ 0 for 0) to go with five boards, one assist, a pair of turnovers while having a +11 pts differential. In the end it was Denver beating San Antonio by a half dozen, with the final being 97 to 91. With the W the Nuggets are now 2 and 0 in the preseason, while the loss put the Spurs at 2 and 1.
The second to last game, played at the Energysolution Arena in front of 17,786 (max capacity: 19,911), has the Utah Jazz [Western Conference ~ Northwest Division] (0-1 in the pre season) hosting Oklahoma City Thunder [Western Conference ~ Northwest Division] (0-1 in the pre season) in a clash of division foes without a win so far. For the home team it’s one of the many former UNC basketball players to have changed teams this off season, Marvin Williams (no twitter account for Williams), who started for the Jazz and got a total of 23 minutes in this one. In that time frame the forward scored 10 points (3 for 6 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 3 for 4) to go with four boards, a pair of assists and steals while having a pts differential of +13. In the end it was Utah taking this one in a landslide, as the outscored Oklahoma City by sixteen, with the final being 97 to 86. With the W the Jazz are now 1 and 1 in the pre season.

And finally, to round out the night, it’s the match up between Portland Trail Blazers [Western Conference ~ Northwest Division] (1-0 in the pre season) and the hosting team of Phoenix Suns [Western Conference ~ Pacific Division] (0-1 in the preseaon). The game was played at the US Airways Center in front of a crowd that numbered 10, 698 (max capacity: 18,422) and took just a bit less than 2 and a quarter hours. For the home squad it’s another rookie, Kendall Marshall (@KButter5 on twitter), who came off the bench for the Jazz. In his 18 minutes of playing time the 6’4″ point guard did not score (0 for 2 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 0 for 0) while getting four assists, a board and a pair of TOs and having a -13 pts differential. In the end the game went to Phoenix over Portland by the final tally of 104 to 93. With the W the Suns are now at .500 with a record of 1 and 1 in the pre season.
