As part of our NBA preseason coverage I will breakdown the top players by division. Here are the best players in the Southwest Division.
Western Conference
Southwest
PG Tony Parker- San Antonio Spurs- 18.3 pts. 7.7 ast. Parker still remains one of the more underrated players even after all his success. His skill level is phenomenal, and with Duncan and Ginobli getting older he’s starting to showcase those skills more often.
SG Manu Ginobli- San Antonio Spurs-12.9 pts. 4.4 ast. He’s not a regular starter and he’s starting to show his age a bit, but Ginobli is still a better all around player than Eric Gordon at this point.
SF Rudy Gay- Memphis Grizzlies- 19.0 pts. 6.4 ast. Gay could be a top 10 player in the NBA if he ever put it all together. I’m not saying he’s complacent, but it appears as though he’s content at being a 20-10 player and having his team lose in the first round of the playoffs. If he decides he wants more- look out.
PF- Dirk Nowitzki- Dallas Mavericks- 21.6 pts. 6.8 reb. As of today, he was scheduled to get his knee scoped, which could put him out for a while. When healthy, Dirk remains the most dangerous big man in the game; His fade away is rivaled only by Kobe, and any 7-footer that can consistently hit threes is okay in my books.
C Anthony Davis- New Orleans Hornets- rookie This year’s first overall draft pick is here based more on potential and a lack of a better center considering he hasn’t even played an NBA game yet. He could become the next Dirk if he gains some range on his jumper, but at the very least he should develop into a versatile big man offensively and a nightmare to shoot on from anywhere on the court.
Bench Tim Duncan- San Antonio Spurs- 15.4 pts. 9.9 reb. A mere shadow of the player he used to be, but that player was one of the best ever, so I’ll still take his shadow.
