As the NBA comes closer and closer more news about former UNC basketball players at the next level is coming out. Ed Davis (@eddavis32 on twitter), the 6’10/235 lbs forward/center who was drafted 13th overall by the Toronto Raptors in the 2010 draft, has had his fourth year option exercised by the franchise. From an article on Inside Hoops it says that the Raptors, who had until October 31st to make this move, now will guarantee Davis his pay check through the `13-`14 season.
Davis, who has played a total of 131 games for the Raptors, was the only one from the Canadian franchise that played in all the games last season. In those sixty six games he scored 6.3 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game (team high) while playing 23.2 minutes per match up. All those numbers are lower, if not by much, than his career averages. However there is no doubt in my mind that the potential for the young man to have those stats go up is there.
As I do with all the present and former Tar Heels let me wish all the best to Ed Davis as he enters his third season at the next level after only playing two season in Chapel Hill under the tutelage of head coach Roy Williams. Hopefully with a good campaign the big man can find his way to another contract with other the Raptors or another NBA franchise.
