UNC Basketball: Heels in the Pro’s ~ NBA (10/18/12)

It is was a very small slate in the National Basketball Association on Thursday, but nonetheless there were some former UNC basketball players in action and that means it’s time for another edition of Heels in the Pro’s NBA Style for 10/18/12, which in many ways seem more like an injury report than game recaps. In all there were four games played and half of them had squads with former Tar Heels on their rosters, one of them with former UNC basketball players on both benches. However, big or small, without further interruptions, let’s get going with this edition of Heels in the Pro’s NBA Style for October 18, 2012…

The first of the two games of the night is the one between the Memphis Grizzlies [Western Conference ~ Southwest Division] (2-2 in the pre season) playing in their only pre season game against the Milwaukee Bucks [Eastern Conference ~ Central Division] (2-1 in the pre season) in an East/West clash. The game, which lasted 2 hours and six minutes, was played at the Lacrosse Center in front of a crowd of 4,314. For the visiting squad it’s shooting guard Wayne Ellington (@WayneElli22 on twitter), who starts for the Grizzlies and plays 30 minutes. In that time the former national champion scored 10 points (5 for 10 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 0 for 0) to go with two rebounds, two assists and a pair of turnovers while having a points differential of +12. On the other side of the court it’s rookie John Henson (@_John_Henson_ on twitter), who is not even on the bench after getting injured against the Bulls. From the official NBA site it’s reported that Henson will be out two weeks. As far as the game is concerned it was Memphis winning a close one, defeating Milwaukee by three, with the final being 97 to 94. With the W the Grizzlies are now 3-2 on the pre season, while the loss slides the Bucks to .500 with a 2 and 2 pre season record.

And the other game on the night is the second match up between the unbeaten Brooklyn Nets [Eastern Conference ~ Atlantic Division] (3-0 in the pre season) who host the Boston Celtics [Eastern Conference ~ Atlantic Division] (1-4 in the pre season). The first game between the two franchises had gone to the Nets by the final of 97 to 96. This game, which lasted close to 2 and a half hours, was played at the Barclays Center in front of 14,192 (max capacity: 17,734). And just like in the first game, the former UNC basketball player in this game, small forward Jerry Stackhouse (@jerrystackhouse on twitter), is also not on the bench due to an injury. The 17 year veteran will be missing 7 to 10 days. As far as the game went it was Boston in a lopsided victory, destroying Brooklyn by the final of 115 to 85. With the loss the Nets, who finished at the bottom of the Atlantic last season with a 22-44 record, are now 3 and 1 in the pre season and will be back in action on 10/19, hosting the 76′ers.

And that is it for this edition of Heels in the Pro’s NBA Style, short but not too sweet with all the injuries. Make sure to come back tomorrow for the next edition of this daily post.
