John Farrell leaves the Blue Jays to become the manager for Boston.
After months of speculation, John Farrell has decided to leave the Toronto Blue Jays to become the new manager of the Boston Red Sox, replacing Bobby Valentine.
After a disappointing season, which the Red Sox ended up last in their division, Boston fired the controversal Valentine recently.
Other candidates that were interviewed for the manager’s job, besides Farrell were: Tim Wallach, Brad Ausmus, and Tony Pena.
CSN New England was the first to break the news of Farrell’s multi year agreement with the Red Sox.
The specifics of the deal are yet to be announced, however, FOXsports.com is reporting that the Blue Jays got infielder, Mike Aviles in exchange for Farrell.
Another rumour circling around the baseball world is that Jay’s first baseman Adam Lind will be joining Farrell Boston.
As a Blue Jay fan how do I feel about all this? I’m not too surprised the team let Farrell go, but I am surprised on how it was done if the rumours are true. Usually a team fires a manager and that’s it. I don’t recall another incident in which a manager left a team as of part of a deal, not with the Blue Jays anyway.
I also feel the Jays should’ve tried harder to keep Farrell. It wasn’t all his fault the Jays struggled this year. Don’t forget, he was playing with a short bench due to all the injuries the Jays had.
His best season as manager, even though it was disappointing, was 2011 when the Jays finished at .500, with a record of 81-81.
He ends his tenure with the Blue Jays with a 154-170 record.
Who will be the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2013? There is some speculation on who it might be. An early favourite is former Blue Jay’s second baseman Robbie Alomar’s brother Sandy Jr.
Other considerations for the job are: Demarlo Hale and Dave Martinez.
Well , whoever gets the job is in for a big challange.
