If nothing else this NBA season is going to be good for one former UNC Basketball player, which would be national champion point guard Ty Lawson (@TyLawson3 on twitter). The 5’11″ floor general, who was picked 18th overall in the `09 draft by Minnesota and then traded to Denver that same night for Luke Babbitt, seems to have gotten his deal done with the Nuggets, as Marc J. Spears from Yahoo! Sports reports…
Nuggets guard Ty Lawson agrees to a four-year, $48 million contract extension, sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

Quite a nice present for Lawson, who is going to be turning 25 years old this week. Last season the point guard averaged 16.4 points and 6.6 assists, and while some thought the speedster could ended up like Harden did with Oklahoma City after he turned down a deal from the franchise, it seems now that won’t happen. And while on NBA.com is saying that the deal is not in place as of right now, they also believe that it will get done before Wednesday’s deadline for 2009 Draft picks.

On the other hand, if things fell through, Ty Lawson would become a restricted free agent next off-season, which would allow him to sign offer sheets from any of the other franchises, Denve would then have three days to match the offers.
For everyone’s sake let’s hope that this does get done and both the former UNC Basketball player and the franchise get what they want, for the first a good contract and for the latter a reliable floor general that can run the court like few can in the NBA.
