US Soccer: US Women set to play in Detroit

The U.S. Men’s National Team played Canada at Ford Field in the 2011 Gold Cup.

The United States Women’s National Team will play in Detroit Saturday December 8th as part of their 2012 Fan Tribute Tour.

The U.S. will face-off against China for three matches beginning at Ford Field, then BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston and finish the tour at FAU Stadium in Boca Ranton, FL.

After their Gold Medal run in the 2012 Olympics the USWNT set out on a 10 game tour to celebrate the team’s accomplishments and to give fans in smaller markets a chance to see them play.

The last U.S. soccer match held in Detroit was the 2011 Gold Cup, where the Men’s National team defeated Canada 2-0 inside Ford Field.

Similar to the USMNT match, Ford Field is expected to convert their football field size to the international soccer regulation size along with conversion to grass field.

The Motor City Supporters, a local Detroit soccer supporters group, have already tweeted about going to the match, “MCS will be gathering the forces strong for the USWNT game in Detroit next month. USA!” .

No word yet whether an American Outlaws group will be officially attending.

Tickets are on sale now through, and expect tickets to be readily available as match day arrives.
