Big Ten Football Week 13 Preview

My Record:   63-27…..70.0%

FRIDAY     Nebraska  (9-2, 6-1)  @  Iowa (4-7, 2-5)        Noon       ABC:    The Corn leads the all-time series over Iowa 23-8-1 and have won the last four games…they are 2-2 in their last four trips to Kinnick though…as much as I would love to see Nebraska go down to Iowa….this Hawkeye team can’t do it…there is just no way they can put together a solid enough game to beat one of the top four teams in the Big Ten…now Kinnick has been a major factor in the Iowa mystique…but that mystique can only take you so far…will it take the Hawks to a win this Friday….uh-no.  Corn wraps up their first ever Legends Division title with a resounding 35-17 road win.

Illinois (2-9, 0-7)  @  Northwestern (8-3, 4-3)     Noon     Big Ten Network:     The Fighting Illini lead the all-time series 54-46-5…Illinois has won the last two meetings and three of the last five…this game hasn’t been played at Evanston since Northwestern won in 2008…Pat Fitzgerald is 3-3 vs Illinois but is 2-0 vs the Illini in Evanston…. This game used to be for the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk…the winner got to take it home each year…but after the NCAA deemed that all Native American imagery considered hostile had to be removed from college athletics….they play for the Land of Lincoln trophy…LAME!  I know in rivalry games you are supposed to ‘throw the records out the window’…and this is one of the more heated rivalries in college football…but I just can’t take the Illini’s 13 game conference losing streak and toss it aside…you would be a fool to do so…so..I will embrace it..the Wildcats will hammer Illinois…the only way this game stays close is if weather has a factor…forecast for Evanston on Saturday?…mostly sunny with a high of 36..that my friends, is Pat Fitzgerald weather….Northwestern wins 45-14

Michigan (8-3, 6-1)  @  Ohio State (11-0, 7-0)     Noon     ABC:     Michigan leads the all-time series with Ohio State 58-44-6 and won last year in Ann Arbor 40-34…the last time Michigan won in Columbus was in 2000 (0-5)…I think Braxton Miller is what Devin Gardner could have been had he been starting all year….Miller is the real deal and he will be tough to stop for two consecutive weeks..whether UM’s defensive coordinator Greg Mattison can draw up the scheme to do so or not is irrelevant…Urban Meyer will adjust and not put his QB in the same positions that slowed him down last week..I like Ohio State to get back to their winning ways vs Michigan…I think the Bucks handle the Wolverines in Columbus with a 24-20 victory…

Indiana (4-7, 2-5)  @  Purdue (5-6, 2-5)     Noon     Big Ten Network:     Purdue leads the all-time series with Indiana 65-37-6 and has won three of the last five…IU won the last game in West Lafayette which snapped a 6 game losing streak there…I know Purdue has the better record and is the home team but I like IU here…they need a bounce back win from the beating they took at the hands of the Nittany Lions last week…it would be a great way for the season to end for a non-bowl-bound team like the Hoosiers…going on the road and beating your rival….oh yeah..IU is one team that Danny Hope has done well against…his record stands at 2-1 vs Indiana…Hoosiers win 35-30.

Michigan State (5-6, 2-5)  @  Minnesota (6-5, 2-5)     3:30pm     Big Ten Network:     Michigan State leads the all-time series 27-17 and has won the last two meetings…MSU is 0-1 at TCF Bank Field….despite the Spartans less than ideal season to this point, a victory fro the Gophers would launch them into their bowl prep on a very high note…at this point, MSU is a little higher up the food chain in the Big Ten…however, that being written..The Gophers run defense is awful and they are facing the Big Ten’s best HB…I know all about Montee’ Ball…I would take Bell any day….MSU becomes the 3rd team to win on the road this weekend…Spartans win 27-17.

Wisconsin (7-4, 4-3)  @  Penn State (7-4, 5-2)     3:30pm     ESPN2:     Wisconsin leads the all-time series 9-6…they have lost the last two meetings in Beaver Stadium…Can Matt McGloin, one of the best passers in Penn State history, win in his last game at Beaver Stadium?…I think Penn State has a great shot at winning….will Montee’ Ball break the NCAA TD record in State College?…I am afraid at this point I have more questions than answers….but I think this could be the best game of the day and ironically it will be the last Big Ten game of the regular season…Nittany Lions get my vote for coach of the year with Bill O’Brien and get the victory over Wisconsin 31-27.
