The home stretch, the final sprint, the final turn, whatever racing metaphor you want to use, the Green Bay Packers are near the end of the season and have some work they need to do before it’s over.
The first game is the big one. The Packers will take on the Bears and if they win, the Packers will take the division. Even if the Packers lose they can still win the division, but what needs to happen for them to win it is pretty confusing and involves at least four other teams, so it is much easier to say that they should just win and get it over with.
After the Bears game, the Packers go out of the division for the final time this season. While the game is against the Titans, who haven’t had the greatest season, the Packers will still have a lot to pay for. Assuming they beat the Bears and clinch the division, the Packers will still be fighting for post-season positing.
While having the bye week didn’t help the Packers last year, if they are able to get the number two seed that week off could help the team get healthy and prepared for a possible super bowl run.
The Packers currently have the number three seed but the 49ers have to play the Seahawks and the Patriots in two of their three remaining games, so they could slip, which means the Packers could get the number two seed and a playoff bye.
The Packers must also try to stay ahead of the New York Giants in the playoff seeding, who currently have a record of 8-5 and beat the Packers earlier this year.
So even though the Packers just need to win next week to reach their goal of a division title, they still have a lot to play for in the following weeks against the Titans and the Vikings.
The playoffs are almost here and the Packers are close to securing their spot and making sure Packers fans get at least one more chance to watch their team.
