Oklahoma Basketball drubbed by Cyclones, 83-64

The Oklahoma Sooners fell victim to the Iowa State Cyclones Monday night at the Hilton Coliseum, enduring an 83-64 drubbing.  The loss pushes them to 14-7 (5-4) on the season.

Iowa State jumped out on the Sooners in the first half with a barrage of three pointers.  Iowa State knocked in eight triples in the first half to enter halftime with a comfortable 44-31 lead.  Of the Cyclones 83 points, 33 of them came off of three pointers.  To open the second, the Cyclones went on a 14-2 run that would push the margin to 25, and they would never look back, cruising to victory.

Despite his previous success in Ames, Steven Pledger was unable to find his rhythm tonight.  The senior scored just five points on 2-9 shooting from the field.

Amath M’Baye and Romero Osby were equally abysmal, combining for 6-22 and 14 points.

It was Andrew Fitzgerald who led the way for Oklahoma, scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds before fouling out late.  In addition to Fitzgerald, Isaiah Cousins and Cameron Clark also served as bright spots tonight.  Both scored 10 points off the bench, while Cousins managed to add three boards and two assists.

The Sooners never could seem to find an offensive rhythm no matter what they tried.  They shot just 36.6% for the game, and 18.8% from long range.

Next up Oklahoma will be at home to face Kansas Saturday.  The Jayhawks will be hungry for a win, but so will the Sooners, looking to avoid a 3-game skid.  A win Saturday would be a statement for Oklahoma NCAA tournament chances.  Tip-off is set for 3 PM CST.
