Hawkeyes Jok and White shine in Prime Time League opener

The 27th installment of the Prime Time League is underway after last night’s season opener. All six teams were in action and the Iowa Basketball players stole the show. The Hawkeyes were marked men in the North Liberty Community Center as ballers from all across the state of Iowa wanted to prove they can compete with Division 1 athletes. The games played out fairly even, but there were two Hawkeye players who shined brighter than the rest.

Aaron White

The red mamba proved that he was worthy of the first overall pick in the Prime Time League draft. White led his team with 29 points and 14 rebounds to go a long with a series of highlight reel dunks in transition. There was one play where White threw down a thunderous one-handed slam in a crowd of people underneath the hoop. The Strongville, Ohio native showcased all offensive skills last night. He finished strong in transition, drained shots from beyond the arc, and displayed an improved pull-up jumper. It should be noted that he was going up against inferior competition, but it’s encouraging to see his game progressing more than it already has. If White keeps it up, he has a chance to be one of the best players in the Big Ten, if not the country.

Peter Jok

The newcomer to the Iowa Basketball program didn’t disappoint in his Prime Time League debut. Iowa’s 2013 Mr. Basketball showed everyone why he was once considered one of the top recruits in the country earlier in his high school career. Jok has unlimited range from beyond the arc. He would spot up and drain NBA-range threes like it was nobody’s business last night. The sharpshooting incoming freshman tallied 35 points last night on 13 – of – 21 shooting from the field. Hawkeye junior Josh Oglesby wasn’t in uniform last night, but he has to be nervous that Jok might take his spot in Fran McCaffery’s rotation for the upcoming season.

Prime Time League action will resume on Sunday at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the North Liberty Community Center. For more information visit the Prime Time League website list in the “Related Links” section below.
