It’s time to talk about one of every sports fans favorite subjects: uniforms. Yes, I said it…uniforms, and this edition of uniform judgement is brought to you courtesy of the Detroit Pistons and their new alternate ‘Motor City’ uniform for the 2013-14 season.
The new alternate uniform features a sharp navy blue that’s reminiscent of the Team USA uniforms and have red numbers and white lettering. ‘Motor City’ is etched across the front of the jersey where it usually says Pistons and this is the biggest change. Not only is it a significant change, it also carries a lot of substance. The city has been going through a turbulent time and the decision to don this tag across the front of the jersey signifies the franchises’ support and love for their city.
Not only does the new uniform express an encouraging message paying homage to the auto industry that built this city and state, it just looks awesome. The switch to the navy blue is something the Pistons should seriously consider switching to in the long run. I understand the team has had bad experiences switching from the usual color pattern, hence the teal disaster in the mid-90’s, but this looks slicker and is a nice change. The teams roster and coaching staff changed drastically this offseason so the decision to add a new look fits the situation quite nicely.
The Pistons plan on wearing these new duds ten times this upcoming season and I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that’s not enough. I believe these will end up becoming a long-term staple for the team if they receive a lot of positive reaction and booming jersey sales.
Many have jumped on the Pistons bandwagon this offseason and believe they could be the league’s most exciting team with the additions of Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings, etc. These uniforms will only add new members to the wagon and that’s okay, the city will take them.
What do you think of the Pistons new uniform? Do you like it or do you leave it?
