Cleveland Indians: No Time To Feel Sorry

The Cleveland Indians are continuing to slump at the wrong time. With 38 games remaining, the dream of a postseason bid is slowly fading away. After losing the series to the Oakland Athletics, the Indians are 4 1/2 games out of the second AL Wild Card spot and trail Detroit for the Central Division Title by 7 games.

Every Indians fan knows it isn’t a good place to be. Jason Kipnis doesn’t see it that way.

“Losing two out of three to Oakland is not deflating. We don’t have time to be deflated by any of these games anymore.┬áIt’s go time. You gotta win. There’s no time to sit around and feel sorry about losing two out of three. We’ve got three against the Angels and those are big games.”

Many think that the Indians “go time” has already come and gone. Again, Kippy doesn’t agree.

“We have a schedule in our favor down the stretch. It’s time for us to start taking care of business. It doesn’t mean sweeping people. It means winning the games you’re supposed to win.”

Sunday’s game should have been one of those games that the Indians were supposed to win. The A’s called up a Class AAA Lefty after Bartolo Colon was placed on the DL, and Scott Kazmir has been on fire as of late. But that fire burned out as Kazmir allowed 5 runs on 10 hits in 5 innings.

The Indians would have been embarrassed yesterday if it weren’t for Ryan Raburn who played for the first time in three games after sitting with a sore calf. Raburn homered giving him 15 homers on the season. Raburn has only 196 at bats– therefore he is averaging a home run every 13.1 at bats.

Fans are calling for Raburn to stay in the daily lineup as Nick Swisher and Asdrubal Cabrera continue to struggle. Swisher was 1-4 last night and batting .242, and Cabrera 2-4 but only batting .232.
