The most popular club in Mexico Chivas de Guadalajara is quickly sinking to the bottom of the Liga MX table and could plummet even lower should Olympic gold winner Marco Fabian migrate overseas.
Fabian has become a prominent figure for Chivas in the past few seasons. And ever since acquiring Olympic gold in London fans have turned to him for answers to the clubs dilemmas.
The pressure of lifting Chivas out of water is still too much for Fabian to burden alone. Still only 24 years old, it is difficult for him to carry Guadalajara on his back when he is yet to reach his full potential.
Part of the problem is that there has been far too much emphasis on managers and external components when they should be focusing on acquiring quality players. The club even went to the extent of acquiring the services of Johan Cruyff back in 2012 to be an advisor for the club.
That same year, Cruyff was terminated due to a lack of results.
By adding talent for Fabian to link up with they would be building upon a core player.
He proved in three consecutive tournaments for Mexico that he is a force to be reckoned with, scoring 5 goals in the qualifying tournament for the Olympics in addition to matching Alan Shearer’s record of 7 goals in the Toulon tournament to come out as top goal scorer in 2012. Not to mention the influence he had in Mexico’s success in the London Olympics.
Fabian has the capacity to be the brains of the squad. But no one is feeding to his abilities. The club needs to reignite its ambition, so that a player like Fabian can as well.
Fabian’s decision to move to a foreign club is precipitated and could only hinder his development, who at the moment is struggling to find his form.
Fabian eager to succeed outside of Mexico should be patient. The Jalisco native must settle down and find his form at Guadalajara first. If he is playing well for Chivas then he will surely be recalled to El Tri to prove himself at the senior level.
Fabian has been extremely successful at the youth level with El Tri. If he can replicate those performance at the senior level then he is certain a spot in the starting eleven of Jose Manuel Chepo de La Torre’s side.
Good performances with El Tri will easily spark European interest. By waiting and playing quality football with Chivas, Fabian’s decision to migrate overseas would be better understood by fans, as oppose to simply leaving when times are tough at Guadalajara.
