It has not been a great past couple of days for UNC Football. First head coach Larry Fedora’s squad lost to South Carolina 27 to 10, then several former Tar Heels got some bad news, with two being out for the season and a third being out of a job.
As I had reported a while back Jonathan Cooper broke the tibia in his left leg. However, when it first happened team officials were not sure if their first round pick would have been back this season or not. By placing Cooper on the injured reserve the franchise has decided to shut the Outland Trophy finalist for the 2013 campaign. This is the first major injury of the lineman’s career, it is a shame that it is one that will have him on the shelf for his entire rookie season.
The bad luck does not stop with Cooper when it comes to offensive lineman from North Carolina in the National Football League and bad legs. Texans’ third round pick Brennan Williams, who has missed all of the team’s OTAs and training camp recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, has also been placed on injured reserve, and he too will not see any action in 2013.
Of the Texans’ last 7 moves, I expect a few to be players placed on IR. I expect rookie OT Brennan Williams (knee) will be one of them.

On a side note about the Houston franchise, early next week I should have a question and answer post up on the site that I did with LaMarr Donald Jr. (blogger for the Texans on ISPORTSWEB) regarding T.J. Yates. (Make sure you come back to check that out)
And finally, the third and final update about a former UNC Football player now in the NFL is about Marvin Austin, who the Giants cut after they could not find anyone to deal the defensive tackle to. The second rounder from 2011 just did not have the impact most believed he would. Some will wonder the old “what if” he did not have the injuries, but in the cut throat environment that is professional sport, it is what it is.
Let’s hope in the coming week for both the current Football team and for all the former Tar Heels now at the next level the news gets better! For all information about current and former UNC Football players make sure to check back right here on ISPORTSWEB!
