With the closing of the Transfer Deadline Day on September 2nd, the Premier League seems to be capturing all of the attention as some big moves have been made across the “top 6” teams as they all fight for a spot in next year’s Champions League. The top teams are always going to be pressured in making some big signings as Arsenal FC have shown through a large majority of the summer transfer window. Though many of these frustrating teams have managed to pull off some last minute deals to ensure success and inspire their teams to fight for major honors this term.
Manchester United have finally landed their first big signing of the summer in Marouane Fellaini from Everton. Everton have done very well in trying to keep their coveted duo in Leighton Baines and Fellaini. Roberto Martinez convinced the Everton faithful that their best players would not be sold but they would push for chance at the top four this upcoming season.
Now, David Moyes has secured his first signing whom seems to be a boost on the current option, Tom Cleverly, given that Carrick seems to be automatic choice in the double pivot formation. The Belgium International will join Manchester United on a £27.5 million deal and will be keen to work with his former manger David Moyes, whom made the same move from Everton to United to replace the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson as manager.
In his time at Everton, Fellaini has made 173 appearances for Everton and scored 32 goals and has 42 international caps for Belgium. However, many United fans may feel a little sour over this deal as Fellaini had a buyout clause that was rated at £23.5 million in which the club would have to be forced into selling the player. Instead, United pursued unrealistic targets such as Fabregas and Thiago Alacantra whom decided to stay and go elsewhere respectively. With this signing, Manchester United have bolstered their central midfield which has been a concern for many years.
Another signing that seems to have shaken the Premier League quite a bit is the signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. Arsenal FC may now have faith in Aresene Wenger has he has delayed in buying players in the market and believes that he will only buy if the right player comes along. That right player is Mesut Ozil and it’s going to signal to the rest of the clubs that they still have the edge in making it into the Champions League and going farther in the competition than in recent years.
Mesut Ozil joins Arsenal on a club-breaking deal for an estimated £42 million on a 5 year deal with a £130,000 salary. He will be Arsenal’s most expensive player and highest earner at the club. Ozil has enjoyed great success at Real Madrid and recorded 26 goals and 93 assists in 206 matches. The German international has also earned 47 international caps and scored 14 goals. He was the maestro for both the international and club team as he created many great opportunities for other players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. He was the main creator at Madrid and now he is at Arsenal. Now thats a scary thing for any defender in the Premier League. It also seems to many people that Ozil may have been forced out of Madrid to make way for the incoming Gareth Bale. He has also reconsidered his future with rumblings from his manager and bosses. Now, Ozil has a coach that believes in him and this is what Arsene Wenger had to say about his new player. “He [Ozil] is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level. We have watched and admired him for some time as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player.” Check out Mesut Ozil in action in this Youtube link. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqVdiyIlZsM) Mesut Ozil is a very dangerous player especially when he gets the chance to put his teammates in better positions to score rather than himself.
Other signings include the loan signing of Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry to Everton as well as the permanent signing of James McCarthy from Wigan Athletic. Liverpool’s Fabio Borini is set to join Sunderland for a season long loan while they have also snapped up defenders Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori. Victor Moses will also join Liverpool on loan from Chelsea as well.
