‘Should I stay or should I go’ should be words only reserved for The Clash. But Kenny Bell seemed to be going back and forth quite a bit Tuesday, as he tweeted he was leaving the Crimson Tide and ‘hanging up’ his cleats for good.
By the end of the day his twitter account became a venue of seemingly bi-polar announcements that Nick Saban knew the whole time was going to end with the senior receiver staying on the team.
“He came and we had a discussion,” Saban said on Tuesday. “There were some personal issues he had to iron out and I think talked to his family about it. I talked to his mom and we talked again today.”
The head coach gave Bell a ‘personal day’ Tuesday and said he expected him back at practice on Wednesday.
The big reveal of exactly why the receiver needed to take a personal day may never come, and everyone should respect his privacy on that. Let’s just hope this never happens again, so he can focus on his last tweet, the road to 16 with his boy AJ McCarron.
I’m back with the team!! Just needed time to myself for a day but I couldn’t leave my boy @10AJMcCarron we ended this run together. #16″
Which added to the confusion when he announced his “retirement”.
But alas, Kenny, we’re glad you’re back, now don’t scare us like that again.
“I want Kenny to be happy,” Saban said. “I would love for him to be a part of the team if he can be happy doing that relative to any other personal responsibilities that he has.”
What ever it is that had this unique reaction for the wide receiver giving up what seems to be a true passion of his- he has come back on twitter (where he has more than 46,000 tweets) saying, “used yesterday as a life lesson so it’s n my past so today it’s a new Kenny and new grind on that field.”
Aside from his fellow team mates already giving him shout outs, I know fans are also happy he’s staying.
