Week 1 is in the books for the Ohio State Football team, and there’s been a flurry of information flooding the media surrounding the program. In order to get you caught up on the action, here’s a few quick hits from the week!
- In their 2013 opener, the Buckeyes offense faced the challenge of Buffalo’s 3-3-5 defense. San Diego State will bring the same defense into Ohio Stadium on Saturday, but the players and coaches are looking forward to the challenge. RB Jordan Hall, who torched Buffalo’s defensive scheme for 159yards last week, had this to say about facing the Aztec’s 3-3-5: “I think we’re better suited this week to go against it, and to make less mistakes.” So, you’re telling me that a guy who averaged 7.6 yards per carry is confident his team will make less mistakes this week? Bad news bears for the Aztecs.
- Normally Urban Meyer would be happy with a 20 point victory, as would the voters for the AP Poll. However, the Buckeyes beat down of Buffalo wasn’t enough to keep them the no. 2 in the polls. Oregon jumped to second after their 66-3 embarrassment of Nicholls State, dropping Ohio State to third. Even the Buckeyes voter for the poll demoted the team. Alabama had 58 first-place votes, with Ohio State and no. 4 Clemson each earning one.
- In an article by the Washington Post, The Horseshoe is going green! The Scarlet and Gray are among 200 plus schools attempting to make their athletic programs and facilities greener. Ohio State worked with vendors to make the change from plastic to fiber nacho trays because “plastic couldn’t be recycled with cheese stuck to it,” said the university’s sustainability coordinator Corey Hawkey. The university is urging all of its patrons to dispose their trash in the proper reciprocals, so if you’re making the trip to Columbus this year, jump on board and clean up the shoe!
- Lastly, the Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes look to improve to 2-0 as they play host to San Diego State (0-1) at 3:30 p.m. this Saturday at The Horseshoe. Go Bucks!
