Robert Johnson, a four-star shooting guard out of Benedictine College Prep, will be visiting UNC this weekend. UNC is a little bare at the 2-guard currently so it will be important for the Tar Heels to land shooting guards in the coming years.
Johnson is considered an aggressive scorer with a quick trigger and great 3-point range. At 6-foot-3 he is a little small for the shooting guard spot but his sturdy build will enable him to guard shooting guards at the next level. Scouting reports on Johnson also report that the guard lacks explosiveness and athleticism.
It will be interesting to see how the recruitment of Johnson progresses over the course of the year because coach Roy Williams is currently recruiting the top-rated shooting guard in the 2014 class in Rashad Vaughn. While a Vaughn commitment wouldn’t totally end the pursuit of Johnson, it would make UNC’s already loaded 2014 class even more crowded.
Johnson is no lock to commit to UNC to be fair. Right now Johnson is in the middle of a recruiting tour that has included visits to Indiana, Virginia, and Florida State. Either way, UNC will be seeing a lot of Johnson in the coming years because almost all of the schools currently recruiting him are in the ACC
