The La Salle basketball schedule for the 2013-2014 season is highlighted by 14 nationally televised games.
The Explorers will be televised on the ESPN Network and CBS Sports Network five times each. They will also air on NBC Sports Network four times.
“I am eager for basketball fans around the country to see the incredible enthusiasm of our students and exciting atmosphere of a packed Gola arena,” said head coach Dr. John Giannini.
Explorer fans have an advantage of cheering on their team with the first four home games of the season taking place in the Tom Gola arena.
The start of the season begins with an exhibition game versus IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) on Nov. 2.
Starting off with a home court advantage should benefit the Explorers’s as they only lost one game at home and won seven during the 2012-2013 season.
Following the IUP game the Explorers will take on Manhattan Nov. 9 and their first appearance on ESPN2 will take place on Nov. 12 versus Quinnipiac. The Explorers’ homecoming game, although not aired on T.V, will be on Nov. 16 versus Siena.
Another highlight for the team this year will be the Paradise Jam tournament in Saint Thomas. During this four-day tournament Nov. 22-25, the team will take on Morgan State, Providence, Vanderbilt, and Paradise Jam.
The Atlantic 10 season opens with a home game versus George Washington on January 9. This game is right before ESPN Gamedays coverage of La Salle versus Temple at the Palestra.
In a big A-10 matchup, the Explorers face off with VCU, which will take place at home and be aired on ESPN/ESPN2 on Jan. 25. For the 2012-2013 season the Explorers were ranked 24 and beat VCU ranked 23. This game will again be much anticipated for this season.
During conference play in the 2012-2013 season La Salle lost to Massachusetts, Temple, Xavier, Saint Louis, and Charlotte. With a shuffle of teams in the A-10, La Salle will no longer be playing Charlotte or Xavier. This year the team will be taking on Massachusetts on the road; the game airing on CBS Sports Network Feb. 5. Both Temple and Saint Louis will be home games this year with the Saint Louis game appearing on ESPN 2 Feb. 8.
The final home game for the Explorer’s will be versus newcomer to the A-10, George Mason Mar. 6. This matchup will appear on NBC Sports Network. The Explorers final game of the regular season will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network from Hagan Arena, home of the Saint Joseph Hawks, on Mar. 9.
From here the 13 teams will advance to the 2014 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship in Brooklyn New York. La Salle will hope to earn a bid into the NCAA tournament this year after they lost to Butler in the first round of the A-10 championship last season.
