For those that might be living under a rock, or do not follow pro sports, this was the first weekend for the 2013 campaign of the National Football League. Which means, for those of us that follow the former Tar Heels at the next level, there were plenty to watch.
One of those past UNC Football players that I did get a chance to watch was New York’s Hakeem Nicks, who began the `13 season on the Sunday Night Football game versus division rival Dallas. And while it was not a good night for the Giants, who seemed to lose the ball each time they had it, turning the ball over six times in the game and ultimately losing the game by the final of 36 to 31, for the wide out it was not a bad night at all.
Nicks, who is still looking for a long term contract from Big Blue, began the season with a five receptions for 114 yards game. And while the former Heels did not score he had a catch for 57 yards. If these numbers continue there is no doubt in my mind that Nicks will get a good pay day when this season is over.
Since many out there play fantasy sports, the 114 yards and no touchdowns would equal in a normal scoring league that the former UNC Football receiver would have earned you 11 points in week one. Let’s see if he can keep it up next week as the Giants host the Broncos at MetLife Stadium for the Manning Bowl.
