The BMW Championship brings us back from the halftime break of the FedEx Cup playoffs this week. Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. will play as host. The field of 70 will be cut to 30 after this week, so players will certainly be on edge as they need to place themselves as high as they possibly can for the best chance at the $10 million grand prize for the overall winner of the FedEx Cup.
There is no cut after the first two days this week, which I love. Conway Farms has several great scoring opportunities, mainly on holes 14 through 18, where there are two par 5′s and the par-4 15th which is only 334 yards long. The par-3 17th, which usually plays about 207 yards, could play as a difference-making hole as well.
Conway Farms is the home course of Luke Donald, who played at Northwestern University. Donald tweeted last week that he had a hole-in-one at the 17th hole last week. Obviously since this is his home course, I expect him to play well. The wind is looking like it’s supposed to be a factor also. There are several other players to watch as well this week. The featured group of the week, which I must say, is looking to be pretty solid. Tiger Woods, Henrik Stenson, and Adam Scott round out the group.
Another interesting player this week is Justin Rose. Rose has shot under par in all 8 rounds of the FedEx Cup playoffs so far. Obviously we know that he can handle the big stage like he did at the U.S. Open this year, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him atop the leader board heading into the weekend. Especially if he can keep up the good, consistent play that he’s shown over the past few weeks.
The playoffs are winding down, but the tension is heating up, and the best players in the world are fighting for the best money prize in sports.
