The New York Giants get bucked by the Denver Broncos at home. In the sibling rivalry of the Manning brothers Peyton Manning now has a three win lead over his younger brother Eli Manning. The Denver Broncos continue their hot streak after putting up 41 points on Sunday. Peyton Manning had a flawless game going 30/43, 307 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Eli went 28/29, 362 yards, 1 touchdown, and 4 interceptions for the game. Even though the final score indicates a routing of the Giants, this game was a tale of two half’s. The fist half ended 10-9 with Denver in the lead. It was looking like a good old fashion defensive game. The only turnover in the first half was Eli’s interception at the end of the second quarter. Then in the second half the Broncos found their spark. It looked like the Giants couldn’t stop them on the defensive side. As for the Giants offense in the second half, they had so many opportunities to score but couldn’t find the end zone. Denver had 13 penalties for 132 yards. the Giants just couldn’t make them pay.
This game showed a lot of the New York Giants weaknesses and problems. The first one is Eli Manning, he has seven interceptions in the first two games. Last season Eli only threw 15 interceptions, he looks on pace to throw over 20 interceptions. Eli has to fix this problem if he hopes to lead his team to the playoffs. The next problem is the defense, they need to find a way to play consistently for four quarters. The first half the defense was playing good, and in the second the couldn’t stop the Broncos offense. They defense also has to force turnovers in order to compete. The Giants led the league in takeaways last year, and so far this year they only have two. That defense has a lot to fix by next week.
The major problem for the Giants continues to be the running game. The Giants only got 23 rushing yards as a team. They just can not create space for the running backs. The offensive line is healthy and is protecting Eli Manning pretty well. I just can not figure out why the running game is so bad. Is it the running back or the o-line that are the main reasons for this? The Giants need to figure out the solution to this problem fast.
Next Sunday the Giants will face the Carolina Panthers who are also 0-2. It will be a big game for both teams, who will be looking for their first win. If the Giants hope to make the playoffs they must win next week. In 2007 they started 0-2 and won the superbowl but that was a miracle. What the Giants accomplished in the past will not likely help them in the present. This next game may give us a look into the rest of the Giants season. If they go 0-3, they most likely wont make the playoffs.
