I know that you are about to get ready for North Carolina host East Carolina in Kenan Stadium, but there is a lot more going on when it comes to the Heels. This time former UNC Basketball players at the next level. This season the National Basketball Association begins its preseason on Saturday, October 5th.
In all there are seventeen players that once called Chapel Hill home on an NBA roster as the season approaches. The last one of these is Reggie Bullock, who will be joining veteran Antawn Jamison on the Clippers roster. Staying in the state of California, Carolina has a member on the Golden State Warriors squad, in Harrison Barnes.
Moving from Golden State to the Lone Star one, four players are playing there for two different franchises. A trio of Heels are on the Dallas Mavericks’ roster, with veterans Vince Carter and Brandan Wright being joined by Wayne Ellington in the off-season. For the second best team last season, the San Antonio Spurs, it’s Danny Green.
Only one former Tar Heels is playing north of the border, and it’s Tyler Hansbrough, who will be wearing the Toronto uni this season. While former Raptor Ed Davis this season will be playing for the Memphis Grizzlies.
In what can be called poetic justice, one of the shortest of the former UNC Basketball in the NBA, Ty Lawson, keeps playing for one of the tallest cities, as he is still with the Denver Nuggets. The other two point guards who used to play at the Dean Dome, Kendall Marshall and Raymond Felton, will be playing respectively for the Phoenix Suns and the New York Knicks.
Staying the in Big Apple, the Brooklyn Nets have on their roster Jerry Stackhouse, while on the East Coast we have Brendan Haywood playing for the Charlotte Bobcats.
Finally the last three former UNC Basketball players that will be playing at the next level are Marvin Williams, for the Utah Jazz, John Henson, for the Milwaukee Bucks, and Tyler Zeller, for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
As the season comes closer and closer I will try to get as much information as possible about all the above stated players, and starting with the preseason games and going all the way to the final game with a former Heels there will be a recap of what each of them did the night before.
