One of the many things that you do when being a blogger is that you get to read tons of stuff about present and former players of the team you follow. Some you enjoy reading, some you like enough to post about it on your blog, and then… well then you find one that you actually wonder/think about. Of course, some in a negative way, and others in a positive way, just like this one. As I roamed the hardwoods site, mostly to avoid the UNC Football discussions, I saw the following tweet about former UNC Basketball star Harrison Barnes…

Having watched the Top 10 plays for the Golden State Warriors you see plenty of Barnes in it (#8 ~ #4 ~ #1). Most of the time watching Barnes flying high to score a bucket on a dunk. So the notion of him being part of the slam dunk contest does not seem like a big stretch. Add to this, the fact that a lot of the prima donnas in the National Basketball Association do not want to be part of it, isn’t refreshing to have a climbing star wanting to participate in the event? Yes, yes it is!
With former Tar Heels Michael Jordan (twice) and Vince Carter having won the contest it would be kind of cool to once again have a former UNC Basketball player hoisting the trophy held during the NBA All Star weekend.
With the season still far away thinking about this is way too early, but I applaud the young man for wanting to step up to try to bring back life to what was once a true pleasure to witness.
I have said many times that we didn’t get to enjoy the best part of Barnes’ talent, as he will be a much better pro than he was a college player. So far I am right on that, and if he continues to play this season like he did during last year’s playoff run, with his peak is still far away, we might one day see him playing at the All Star game and not just at the Slam Dunk contest.
As the pre season comes closer and closer stay tuned for more information and updates about the seventeen former Tar Heels now in the National Basketball Association.
