There’s a new kid on the block
Look out Robin Van Persie, step aside Wayne Rooney, Manchester United might just have a new wonder-kid. Many were left scratching their heads when they saw Adnan Januzaj’s name on the team sheet for the Red Devils game away at Sunderland but the 18-year-old scored two well taken goals on his debut to win the game. Only the only over player in the history of the club to score twice on his league debut was Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Remember the name: Adnan Januzaj.
The Tottenham defence is not quite as solid as we first thought
Prior to this weekends game at home to West Ham Tottenham had conceded only two goals in 11 games in all competitions so far this season. By the full time whistle on Sunday that number had become five as the lilywhites put their consistency aside for the day and the Hammers ran riot.
Southampton are still going strong
They may not have the biggest names in the Premier League and they may not have the biggest budget but they are playing some of the best football. Goals from Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez meant that the Saints were comfortable winners at home against Swansea to go forth in the table, above Man City and Spurs.
Lukaku can score against the big boys
As the season progresses Romelu Lukaku’s loan move from Chelsea to Everton makes less and less sense. This week the strong Belgian striker showed his worth again scoring away at the Etihad stadium making it four goals already so far this season for Toffees. It means that in his last six appearances in the league the 20-year-old has scored seven goals and, playing only 302 minutes of those six, he averages a goal every 43 minutes.
Could Darren Bent launch a shock bid to be on the plane to Rio?
It’s going to take a lot more than just one goal but this weekend the 29 year-old showed the kind of composure in front of goal that got so many people excited during his time at Ipswich and Charlton. The goal will no doubt do his confidence a world of good but could it push him on to the kind of form that would trouble Roy Hodgson for a ticket to Brazil? Only time will tell.
